Jamil Merrell (JM): It has been great. I have met many great people. Visited some schools. It has been a good experience.
SOR: You and your brother have a good number of offers, talk about what it would be like to play with him at the next level?
JM: It is an honor for both of us to get recruited by so many top schools. To know we have the opportunity to go to school together is going to be a great feeling and experience for both of us.
SOR: You guys have been stars on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Talk about what position schools are recruiting you two at?
JM: Most schools are recruiting us to play on the defensive side of the ball. I am getting recruiting for DE/OLB. My brother is getting recruited to play LB or Safety.
SOR: How big are you guys at this point.? JM: I am at 6'4 and around 215 lbs. My brother (Jamal Merrell) has grown a bit and is 6'5-6'6 and weighing 198.
SOR: Talk about some of the schools you have interest in at this point.
SOR: What schools were you able to visit this summer?
JM: We made it out to Tennessee and Pitt. We would like to have visited more schools, but with the way gas prices are and the costs of traveling, we are going to wait for official visits before we check schools again.
SOR: Talk about your interest in Rutgers at this point?
JM: We really like Rutgers. I talk to Duron Harmon all the time, and he says great things about the school and the coaches. I make sure to keep in touch with Coach Susan. He is a great person, recruiter and coach. He emails and writes all the time. He makes me feel very comfortable. I know he would like for us to go visit this summer, but that might be tough. We want to get up there in the fall though….Rutgers is recruiting us both to play defense.
SOR: When do you think you and your brother will be ready to select a school?
JM: We want to take a few official visits and make sure we make the right decision. We are looking for a place we can get a great education, play good football and have a strong connection with the players and staff. The players and staff are going to be family over the next few years.
