Jamal Merrell Discuss his Rutgers Trip

Three star prospect Jamal Merrill is right around 6-to-8 offers, the same as his brother Jamil. Both were in attendance for Rutgers game against North Carolina.

Jamal Merrill is a skill player that can get it done on both sides of the ball. As a wide receiver, he caught a state leading 16 touchdowns and was named Second Team All-State in Delaware. As a safety, he was named First Team All-State as a defensive back as a junior.

Merrill is going through the recruiting process with Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Tech teammate and brother Jamil. He said that they're a package deal; they want to play together at the next level.

Jamal was present at the Rutgers-North Carolina game with his brother who said he enjoyed the atmosphere and time spent with the coaching staff. Jamal echoed the same sentiments.

"Yes," Jamal said when asked if he also enjoyed the trip. "It was a good atmosphere."

They were able to spend time with Head coach Greg Schiano and Tight Ends/Recruiting Coordinator Joe Susan. Like many other recruits, Merrill said he likes the Knights head coach.

"He's an alright guy," he said about Schiano. "I like him."

While he can play both ways, he said most schools are recruiting him to play defense. He said he would rather play on the defensive side of the ball.

The most important things he's looking for in a potential school are a good coaching staff, good team with good surroundings, and strong academics. He would like to major in business when he goes to college.

He, like his brother, doesn't have a top five and is focused on his high school football season. Jamal's team is 2-0 and coming off a 48-6 win.
