Rutgers falls to Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - -Matt Harmon kicked a late field goal to give the Midshipmen a 23-21 win over winless Rutgers on Saturday in a game attended by Naval Academy graduate and presidential candidate John McCain.

McCain was at the game for the 50th reunion of the Class of 1958 and for however long he stayed to watch, he was part of a record crowd of 37,821, even if he probably was gone when Harmon's kick put Navy up for good with 2 minutes, 6 seconds left.

Eric Kettani rushed for a career-high 133 yards on 20 carries and scored on a 2-yard run as Navy (2-2) snapped a two-game losing streak. Rutgers opened the season with three straight losses for the first time since 1999.

Ross Pospisil sealed the win for the Mids with an interception at midfield with 1:34 left to play. Harmon's also converted kicks of 36 and 26 yards in the first half.

The nation's leading rusher headed into the game, Navy's Shun White added 85 yards as the Mids' top-ranked rushing offense gained 272 yards and had 361 yards of offense. Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada completed 5 of 8 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown and ran for 47 yards. His touchdown pass was for 22 yards to Tyree Barnes.

Rutgers freshman Jourdan Brooks rushed for 134 yards and scored two touchdowns in his first-ever start. Mike Teel completed 13 of 20 passes for 131 yards, but had his day ruined with his final interception toss.

Navy drove 63 yards on 12 plays on its final drive to set up Harmon's last field goal. It was the second time this season he's had three field goals in a game.
