Rutgers defeats Marshall 75 - 56

The Knights are making a habit of falling down in the second half ... but after a first half like they had against Marshall, RU could fall down and still win going away.

Rutgers matched up against a good Marshall team and it was a game that was supposed to be close. Marshall was a scoring machine and Rutgers was a blossoming defensive power. The game should have been a nail biter.

It wasn't.

Rutgers matched up Jerome Coleman against Marshall shooting star, Ronald Blackshear. It was Coleman's day and Blackshear's Knightmare.

By halftime Blackshear had 3 fouls and only seven points. Coleman had a "lights out" half with 22 points leading the Knights to an incredible 49-23 halftime lead, this against a team that was averaging 102 points a game. The Rutgers pressure forced 13 first half turnovers while the Knights shot .556 from the field. Rutgers held the Thundering Herd to only .333 (8 or 24). RU even outrebounded Marshall 18-12.

In the second half the Knights came out flat but it would make no difference. Though Jerome Coleman only added six points to his half time totals, a number of Rutgers scorers contributed enough to seal the win.

Jerome Coleman led the Knights with 28 points. Ricky Shields added 10.

Kareem Wright led the Knights with six rebounds.

Ronald Blackshear who came into the game averaging over 27 ppg was held to 11 points.

Rutgers improves to 3-1.
