Auburn defeats Rutgers

The Knights did it all wrong in a weak attempt to defeat the Auburn Tigers. Foul shooting, fouling and a lack of rebounding derailed the Scarlet effort.

Rutgers Loses At Auburn

After playing to a 38-38 back and forth first half draw, Auburn stormed out of the blocks in the second half on an 11-2 run and never looked back.  The lead stayed in a range of 4 to 8 points until the last few minutes when it rose to a biggest lead of 14 points. The final score was Auburn (6-1) 82 and Rutgers (3-2) 70.

This was a very winnable game but Auburn took the game from Rutgers on the inside. Rutgers out rebounded the Tigers 20-19 in the first half but lost the rebounding battle 30 to 47. The Tigers out rebounded the Knights 28 to 10 in the second half.  Points in the paint where Auburn almost doubled up on Rutgers 44 to 24 were also part of the story. Rutgers had no consistent effective inside point producer

Rutgers shot just 38 percent from the field tonight and actually lost the statistical game from the line with an atrocious 10 of 22 outing.  Auburn was not much better at 21 for 36 from the line. The difference of 11 points from the line almost mirrored the final point differential of 12.

Rutgers created 22 turnovers while committing just 10 of their own.  The Knights, however, were unable to capitalize on this differential.

Ricky Shields led the Knights with 19 points, 17 of which cam in the first half.  Jerome Coleman had 18 points and Herve Laminzana had 10 points.

The Knights are back in action Wednesday evening at home against non-conference foe Fordham University.
