Delaware Twins Commit to Rutgers

Rutgers lands commitments today from Jamil and Jamal Merrell. SOR was able to catch up with Jamil today, who was effusive with his positive comments regarding the program.

Jamil Merrell and Jamal Merrell, the two great athletes from the state of Delaware have made commitments to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights today. They were both visited by Coach Greg Schiano and Coach Joe Susan.

Jamil shared some thoughts with us. "It is a good night. We are so excited. We found the right place for us to go to school. This is such a great feeling".

Not one aspect of the program was the difference maker, but the total package. "I loved everything about Rutgers. The people I was around. The players have a great family feel. The coaches were fantastic. It was easy to come to the conclusion. My brother and I both felt the same way about the school. We both were on the same board....Everything was magnificant about the school, the official, the unofficials, the games. Everything was great".

Rutgers was able to provide a unique vantage point to the Merrill twins on their official visit. They were hosted by a pair of twins themselves, the McCorty twins. "It was good to see how they live their lives up there. It was a good model for us".

His parents were also on board with the decision. "They were very understanding. They left it up to us. But they also felt it was the right place for us". Jamil is currently at 6'3 1/2 215. He is being projected to play DE. Jamel stands at 6'4 1/5 195. He looks to play safety.

Both will be playing in the Delaware All-Star game and may participate in an other national all-star game, pending on approval from their parent. In the meantime, "we are just doing weight training. We want to be as ready as possible for when we get there".

When asked if he had a message for RU fans he was simple in his statement. "Just tell them thank you. Thank you".
