2009 Rutgers Recruiting Class

The journey to National Letter of Intent Day for the Scarlet Knights had it twirls and turns. But Greg Schiano and staff assembled likely their best class in their tenure. This is break down of student-athletes likely to sign with Rutgers.

Isaac Holmes
DT 6'3" 290


A force in the main the defensive line who registered more than 80 tackles and 4 sacks from his DT position. A three year starter. Gathered 35 scholarship offers before selecting Rutgers over Pittsburgh and Maryland

Junior Solice
LB 6'3" 230


An explosive athletic who was a standout both on the football field and basketball court. Played DT and DE before settling in at MLB, where he excelled and gained a repetition as a furious hitter. He selected Rutgers over Rhode Island and Villanova.

Quron Pratt
CB 6'1 170


Pratt set a school record with 20 interceptions. As a senior, he registered 8 interceptions enroute to helping his team tally a 9-1 record. His efforts were recognized by being named Defensive Player of the Year in Burlington Country. His abilities were not isolated to the football field. on the basketball court, he scored over 1,000 points from his point guard position for Palmyra and also played AAU. He selected Rutgers over Duke, Villanova and Akron.

Antwan Lowery
OG 6'3 340


One of the most highly touted defensive linemen to attend the Banks. At 6'3"-330lbs, Lowery has good size but do not be fooled by the size. He has good feet and athleticism. His big strength is stuffing the run at the point of attack. However, he has enough quickness to get down the line of scrimmage and make a from tackle to tackle. As a senior, he was named All-Dade and led his team to a 9-1 record. He participated the Underarnour All-American Game. Selected Rutgers under Miami, Florida and Florida State.

Jamil Merrell
WLB 6'4 210


A highly versatile athlete, who played FB, LB, and DE in high school. He plays with a great motor. As a pass rusher, he displays great explosive off the corner and athleticism. A two-time first-team All-State performer. He selected Rutgers over Florida State, Pittsburgh, North Carolina, Iowa and Syracuse.

Jamal Merrell
WR 6'6 196


At 6'6"-196", Merrell has a great frame, athleticism and body control. He has been a standout as a LB and WR, where he was a two-time All-State performer. He selected Rutgers over Pittsburgh, Syracuse, North Carolina and Tennessee.

De'Antwan Williams
RB 5'7 207


Amassed 6,039 yards and 72 touchdowns for his career. There are a lot of comparisions made between Williams and former Rutgers standout Ray Rice. There is good reason. They share a similar statue and running style. At 5'9"-197, Williams runs a 4.4-second 40-yard dash and that he can bench press 395 pounds. He selected Rutgers over West Virginia, Boston College, Pittsburgh and Virginia.

David Osei
OG 6'4 250


Played offensive tackles in high school where he did not relinish a sack in his senior year. He is also a standout wrestler, where he has a 26-0 record. Has been selected to play in the Big 33 All-Star game.

Abdul Smith
S 6'0 185


A physical specimen, who was named AP first-team All-State and Philadelphia Inquirer Southeast Pennsylvania defensive player of the year. He was a standout at both RB and Safety but will likely play CB at Rutgers. Selected Rutgers from a list of over 20 scholarship offers which included Pittsburgh, Maryland, Colorado, Iowa, Boston College and Penn State. Participated in the Offensive-Defensive National All-Star game.

Logan Ryan
CB 5'11 175


An athletic skilled player, who was a standout on both sides of the ball. An spread option QB on offense, where he Threw for over 1,000 yards and 8 TDs. On the ground, he accounted for 699 yards and 9 TDs. On defense, he had 5 INTs from his CB position. Was named Philadelphia Inquirer South Jersey Defensive Player of the Year. Selected Rutgers over Virginia, Boston College, West Virginia, Iowa and Michigan State.

Robert Joseph
FB 6'1 225


It is been quoted by one source that "he is the closest thing to Brian Leonard that I have seen". This 6'1"-210lbs RB has the speed and athleticism to remind you of the former Rutgers star. Named 3rd team All-State by the New York Sports State Writers Association.

Duron Harmon
CB 6'0 195


Duron will likely play safety at Rutgers . He earned 1st Team All State Honors. He was named the Delaware Defensive Player of the Year and Gatorade Delaware Player of the Year. He possesses good speed and shiftiness. Duron be in the running for playing time as a true freshman at RU. On offense, he rushed 1,126 yards and totaled 20 TDs. On defense, he averaged 6.5 tackles/game. Duron chose to attend RU over Maryland , Pitt. , Iowa , UConn, and Stanford.

Aaron Hayward
RB 6'0.5 194


Aaron possesses excellent size with good speed and exceptional footwork. He has good moves and dynamic in the open field. Aaron mostly played RB in high school. He rushed for 1,265 yards and totaled 17 TDs as a senior. He projects as a slot WR at Rutgers . Aaron chose to attend RU over UNC, Pitt., Syracuse , and West Virginia .

Mark Harrison
WR 6'4 215


Mark is one of the most explosive athletes on the east coast. He is a big WR with top end speed who has been clocked as fast as 4.39 in the 40 yard dash. He can vertical leap in the 39" range. 1st Team All State in CT after making 61 catches for 1,673 yards. Averaged 28 yards/catch and tallied 17 TDs. He will be a big play threat down the road. Mark committed to RU early as his 1st offer.

Steven Beauharnais
SLB 6'2 230


A thick LB prospect who runs very well sideline to sideline. He is a strong and explosive athlete. He was the best defensive players on one of the top high school programs in NJ. He recorded 99 tackles on the year. Also very productive as a RB in high school. Steve committed to RU early as his 1st offer.

Michael Larrow
DE 6'3 258


A DL prospect with versatility to play inside or end. Possesses long arms, thick frame, and strength. Good 1st step for a DL. Recorded 9.0 sacks and 64 tackles. Played at the same high school Scarlet Knights Pete Tverdov, OL Desmond Stapleton and Current Pittsburgh Steeler OL Darnell Stapleton. He is arguably the top DL in New Jersey . Michael committed to RU over Illinois , Oregon , South Florida, and Syracuse .

Paul Carrezola
TE 6'4 248


He is a powerful, stocky TE with very good hands and route running ability. Has adequate speed. He reminds many of former Rutgers TE Sam Johnson. He is ranked the #22 TE in the nation by Scout.com. He chose to attend RU over UConn, Iowa, NC State, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

Andre Civil
DE 6'5 250


Andre will likely play DE at RU. The top football player in NYC this past year. Possesses a tall, lean frame and has a capacity to gain another 20-30 lbs. Runs very well for a man his size. Starred in the Offense/Defense All Star game where many of the top prospects in the nation participated. Andre chose RU over Syracuse , Clemson , Georgia Tech, and UConn.

Tom Savage
QB 6'5 220


Tom is one of the more decorated players to attend Rutgers. Performed well in the US Army All American Game. Chosen as an Elite-11 QB as one of the top QB in the Nation. Big bodied QB with decent mobility in the pocket and a big arm. Tom can make all the throws and has one of the best long balls of any HS QB in the country. Tom chose RU over Miami, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, and Louisville.

Jamal Wilson
OT 6'6 300


Considered the Top OL in the NYC Public School League. Jumbo athlete with good size and foot work. He was considered one of the most coveted OL prospects by Rutgers and an early commitment. He chose to attend RU over Maryland and Syracuse.

Mohamed Sanu
S 6'2 195


Mohammad is an early enrollee at Rutgers. Did not play football this past fall based on age restrictions. During his junior year, was considered a top QB/S at South Brunswick HS. Participated in the New Jersey/New York football classic and was arguably the top looking prospect at that event. Great size, speed and range as a safety. Will compete for early playing time at Rutgers
