Rice Wins City of Palms Tournament
After leading by a 29-26 halftime score, Rice High School of New York came out in the third quarter to go on a 9 to 0 run and eventually take the championship from St. Pat's of Elizabeth, 64-51. Rutgers center of attention, Shagari Alleyne, clogged up the middle and grabbed 8 rebounds to go along with 11 points and 6 blocks. Two prospective juniors being followed by RU had outstanding games. Forward Arturo Dubois hit for 19 with 8 rebounds and Russell Robinson, AllStar and tournament MVP, went for 18. Alleyne also made the All Star Team. SHU recruit Grant Bellemeier chipped in with 2 points for St Pats while the All World Character had 15.
