Cobb Ready to Repeat

At 6'0, 220lbs., Ryan Cobb is the most recent standout from Don Bosco Prep to remind opposing teams that they are playing for 2nd place. He has earned the nickname "Baby Toal" based on the similarities between himself and former Bosco standout and all- around athlete, Brian Toal. One of the biggest things that they both have in common is their competitive nature and craving to win championships.

"We won states three years in a row and hope that we can do it again as well as go undefeated through our national schedule", said Cobb. Next season, Don Bosco will likely play 3 teams outside the state of New Jersey and each of those teams will most likely be nationally ranked. This is a common practice for the garden state powerhouse. Last season, Bosco defeated De LaSalle who, at the time was ranked #6 in the nation and had won 16 straight North Coast Section Titles in California. Ryan Cobb played a huge role in the East vs. West coast showdown which made a huge statement for garden state athletics overall.

Cobb is an excellent athlete who has played a multitude of positions including cornerback, strong safety, defensive end, middle linebacker, slot receiver, and tight end. You would probably have an easier time naming the positions he hasn't played. Ryan is obviously willing to help out wherever needed which is a common theme at Don Bosco. "I have played all over the field. Wherever they need me, I am willing to contribute there", Cobb said.

The 1st team All-North Jersey selection is receiving attention for his brains as well as his brawn. Cobb carries a GPA of 3.8 and is therefore being recruited by Harvard University. "Being that the Ivy League schools cannot offer athletic scholarships, they (Harvard) offered me grants to cover my tuition instead. Harvard is the only school to offer at this point", Cobb said.

Ryan's offer list is sure to improve based on his plans for the upcoming season. He stated, "Being that I play so fast, I am going to work harder than ever to make sure I am in the best shape of my life in order to go 100% every play". It's scary to think that he could get any better. He is mostly being considered as a strong safety on the next level.

Ryan is currently being recruited by Rutgers, Harvard, Stanford, Boston College, UCLA and Notre Dame. There is no clear frontrunner at this point. Ryan claims that he would give respect to any team willing to send him a written offer and would be honored to accept it. His main concerns in selecting a school are academic integrity, relationship with the coaching staff, and how he would fit into the scheme of things.

Regarding Rutgers, Cobb mentioned, "I like them a lot. They have a great reputation preceded by solid academics and terrific coaching. Mike Teel played for Bosco and being that he was there and had a terrific career made them a team that I followed".

Cobb looks to win his fourth straight state championship this upcoming season. What an achievement that would be. He finished 2008 with 47 tackles and 9 sacks along with 30 receptions and 9 TD's.
