Pernetti Tabbed as RU AD

Former Rutgers Tight End Tim Pernetti has been tabbed as Rutgers' Athletic Director (AD) and will succeed Carl Kirschner who has been serving as interim AD following Robert Mulcahy's dismissal at the conclusion of 2008.

Tim Pernetti will be selected as Rutgers' AD following in the footsteps of Robert Mulcahy, who was let go from his position on December 31st, 2008, following a ten year stint at the university.

Pernetti's name is a familiar one among Scarlet Knight fans, having played his collegiate football at Rutgers in the early 1990's. Prior to his collegiate career, Pernetti was a standout at Ramapo HS, where current Rutgers Head Football Coach Greg Schiano, served as his coach for one year.

Pernetti, 38, has served as analyst on the Rutgers Football Radio Network since 2001, and was most recently in an executive position with CBS College Sports Television (VP for content).

"I think it's a great selection," said senate president Richard Codey (D-Essex), in an interview conducted by Tom Luicci. "A lot of schools have athletic directors who are graduates and it works well because their heart is in it. It's not a job for them, it's a passion."

The Rutgers Board of Governors has yet to formally approve Pernetti as RU's AD. However, approval is expected to occur Thursday morning and a press conference to introduce the new Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Tim Pernetti, following the Board of Governors meeting Thursday in Newark at approximately 12:30 p.m., will follow at the Paul Robeson Campus Center.
