Dustin Thomas also has a 3.3 GPA to go along with it. Colleges are beginning to take notice of this intriguing young recruit. Many have said that he is the #1 QB prospect in the state of New Jersey for 2010.
Dustin Thomas is a stat sheet stuffer. In 3 years at the helm, Thomas has accounted for 4,296 yards and 51 TD's through the air and 1,773 yards and 18 TD's on the ground. His tremendous production has earned him Player of the Year from NJ publication the Daily Journal as well as consecutive 1st Team All- Cape Atlantic League honors.
Dustin mentioned, "I am a very competitive, dual-threat quarterback who can create plays and make something out of nothing. I get in the zone at the end of the game and everything slows down for me. At that point I have the ability to take my team under my wing and lead us to victory"… and win indeed they did. Dustin led his team to a 10-win season in which he was injured in the sole game that they lost.
Dustin also participates in baseball in which he is a pitcher and track and field in which he runs the 100 and 200 meter events, 400 meter relay, throws the javelin and participates in the high jump. During basketball season, yes, he plays that as well. Although he insists that he is more of an energy, high effort guy that plays tough defense, gets to loose balls and gives the team a spark. Every team needs one of those guys. His workload is obviously a work of legend. "I haven't had a day off since I was like 6", he said jokingly.
He also stated, "I'm the type of guy who watches a lot of sports movies, and when the defining moment occurs, I get chills and picture myself making plays at crucial points throughout one of my games". Dustin is an athlete through and through.
His talents have earned him the interest of Rutgers, Michigan St., Virginia, Northwestern, Miami, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Connecticut and Tennessee. No offers have yet to follow at this point although I'm sure they will come. Academics, the surroundings of the campus as well as tradition are meaningful to Dustin in making his collegiate decision.
In regards to RU he mentioned, "I like them. I've been there a few times. Whether I attend there or not first depends on whether I get an offer, and second, the offensive system they will run and what position they project me at. I plan to make it up for spring practice and the spring game to take a look".
Dustin's goals for the upcoming football season are to make it to the states and also to defeat juggernaut Don Bosco prep that is now slated on the schedule. He stated, "Playing them is almost unfair. They are a machine although I think we might have a chance this upcoming season with the large amount of Jrs. Coming back". We will have to wait and see. SOR will keep you posted.
