Darnell Lays Down the Law

Darnell Laws is a 6'0 205 lb. bruiser-back out of St. Augustine H.S. (NJ). In 2008, his on-field success was limited due to nagging injuries, but he plans to truly break out next year and show the world what he is made of. SOR got the opportunity to discuss a couple of issues with the budding star including this upcoming season.

Darnell Laws explained himself as "a tough, down-hill runner. I never go down on the first tackle. I am good at surveying the field, finding holes, and getting to the openings". His abilities have earned him 2nd Team All- Non Public as well as 2nd Team All- Cape Atlantic League in limited action.

"I only played sparingly in 7 games due to injury. I had 519 rushing yards on only 59 carries and scored 9 touchdowns. I also pitched in at linebacker and made big plays for my defense", Darnell mentioned. His hard-nose running style and astounding 8 yards per carry set precedence for the St. Augustine overeall offensive output. In other words, he set the tone and consequently laid down the law.

Darnell is receiving interest from Rutgers, Connecticut, Syracuse, Oregon and Wake Forrest. He currently has no offers but will attend a multitude of camps and combines as well as work hard, attempt to stay healthy and ultimately double his production from last year in order to receive some. "I plan to do whatever it takes to rebound from last year's loss in the state semi- finals and lead my team to a state championship", he said.

Education, good facilities and an approachable coaching staff are the 3 main concerns for Laws when considering the next level. In the coming weeks, Darnell will attend the Nike camp, with hopes of garnering immediate regional exposure.

Darnell is definitely interested in the Scarlet Knights. He mentioned, "I would love to contribute at Rutgers. I really like the facilities and being that it is so close to home, my parents could always see me play". Darnell plans to attend Rutgers spring practice in hopes of experiencing what the team is truly about.
