Gill visits RU. BC, PSU, UConn next.

State Of Rutgers first introduced Christon Gill to readers on our message boards as a little known prospect out of Connecticut. Only a few months later, his recruitment has heated up with his first two offers in hand and is poised to garner more.

Bridgeport Central HS in Bridgeport CT has had some legit talent come out of the area in the recent years. DE/OLB Trevardo Williams (6'2 220) was a superstar recruit two years ago; he went to Canterbury Prep last year and is now enrolled at UConn. Trevardo has All-Big East Potential. Keith Carlos (6‘2 200), who happens to be the brother of current Scarlet Knight Blair Bines, played at Lackawanna Community College last year and is expected to be a featured skill position player at Purdue. And this year, Christon Gill is getting recognition as a potential big time college recruit.

Christon Gill, who recently measured in at 6' 180, has been a two year starter at QB and Safety at Bridgeport Central. He has solid speed and a great feel for the game. He probably won't play QB at the next level, but being a QB has certainly helped him develop as a football player. "In college I could play WR, CB or Safety. With my size, people are telling me I could be a top cover corner. I love the game and play all three well. It does not matter to me where I play. I just want to get on the field and compete. I consider myself a playmaker".

Gill recently participated in the Badger 7-on-7 tournament at Rutgers University. And Gill absolutely put on a show. His Assistant Coach John Carolina shared with us some info on the event. "Christon had a playoff basketball game in Connecticut at 2PM and was really torn about whether to play basketball or participate in the 7-on-7. He had trained real hard for the 7-on-7 and he knew he had to come out and impress. He knows football is what he is going to play in college. But at the same time, he had a responsibility to his basketball team and did not want to let them down. He said coach, as soon as I get out of here, we are driving down to Jersey. And when he got down here he scored 6 TD's and 6 interceptions in the first two games. He was great".

Baron Flanory who was involved in running the event said "Gill was outstanding. He is a kid that I really like as a prospect".

Gill recently took a trip to Rutgers to take in a practice. He has trips set up to Boston College, Penn State, Uconn and a return trip to Rutgers set up in the next month. He took some time to speak to us about each of the schools:

Boston College- "I am heading up to BC on March 21st. I have e-mailed with Coach Siravo. The coach seems real cool. He writes to me about how he looks forward to meeting me on their junior day. They found out about me through Khairi Fortt, who I know they are recruiting hard. Coach Siravo says he really wants to get to know me better and for me to check out the school and see how I like it".

PSU- "I go to Penn State on March 28th. They invited me to a game last year and I liked it there. I have a good relationship with Coach Kermit Buggs and he came to Bridgeport to come check me out. He sends hand-written letters all the time. He talks about how good I would fit in at Penn State and to keep hitting the books. He told me he looks forward to spending some time with me next week".

UConn- "I am being recruited by Coach Lakatos and Coach Edsall. I travel to Uconn on April 4th. I like UConn a lot. The whole program is great. The coaches have good relationships with the players. My friend and former teammate at Bridgeport Trevardo Williams thinks it's a good fit for him. He is already running with the 1's as a freshman at DE. He likes it a lot. He thinks they should be my #1 choice. He says the coaches are always talking to him about me and how I should join him up there".

Rutgers- "I think they are my best option. I loved it there. They are a great fit. The head coach Greg Schiano, I felt connected to him right away. He felt like a dad, a coach and a friend all in one. He pushes the players really hard, but he can be personal with them at the same time. I think that is a special gift in a person. He wants me to come back down with my mom and we are going down on April 11th. I liked Coach Susan also. You can tell he cares about the kids. The weight room was really nice and you could really develop physically in that weight program".

Gill will participate in the elite scouting services combine in South Florida on April 25th and the Nike Camp on May 2nd.

We will continue to follow Gill's recruitment as the year goes along.
