Unsung Hero Prepares for Breakout Season

Piscataway H.S. just keeps pumping them out. The latest in a long line of possible Division 1A talent in the class of 2010 is Anthony Tillman (5'9 182). Tillman doubles as a hard- nose running back as well as a throw- back linebacker for the powerhouse Chief's program.

It's definitely not an easy task to break the lineup at RB for the Piscataway program, but Tillman finally did so and contributed towards the end of last season.

His contributions increased as the season progressed. Offensively, Tillman ended up with 460 yards rushing and 9 TD's on 52 carries. On defense, he got in on 69 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 interception. His efforts earned him 3rd Team All- Middlesex County honors.

When asked about his running style, Tillman stated, "I like to put my head down and earn tough yards while running down-hill. I would say that I'm a power- slasher". As his skills improved throughout the season, Anthony became one of the more effective backs on the Piscataway squad.

Tillman is also a fan of the arts. "I have been playing the piano for 5 years. It's relaxing. You can just sit down, play and forget about everything", he stated. Anthony also participates in track and field in the off-season where he runs the 100m, 200m and 110m hurdles. His best respective times are 11.4, 23.2, and 16.5 in those events. He also claims a 4.5 forty yard dash.

His goals for the upcoming football season are to win another state championship, rush for over 1,000 yards and smack helmets over 80 times defensively. Anthony currently is participating in speed and weight training on a daily basis in order to complete his objective.

Tillman is being recruited by Rutgers, Maryland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Boston College. He currently holds no offers. Academics, location and football success are his main factors in the selection the school he will attend in 2010.

Tillman likes Rutgers. He stated, "They (Rutgers) have a real good program. I have been going to their camps for the past few years and I know their staff pretty well." SOR will keep you informed as to the outcome the situation. Stay tuned.
