RU Offers another Big TE

Jr. Blake Barker is one of the most recent players to receive a football scholarship offer from Rutgers University. He is a huge 6'6 230 lb. TE with tremendous playmaking ability as well as the offers to match. The Massachusetts product is sitting on top of 11 offers and that number is sure to climb. SOR caught up with Blake to discuss his level of interest in the Scarlet Knights.

Blake Barker confessed, "Honestly, I don't know much about the program. I heard they are a pretty good though. I haven't spoken to any coaches or anything. I just came home one day and had an offer in the mail. I plan to learn more about the university in the near future though. I am completely open at this point and have no favorites".

Hopefully, Rutgers will take advantage of the opportunity to share a little about the university with the talented young man.

Other teams in the running include Florida, Tennessee, Penn State, Stanford and North Carolina amongst a few others. There is definitely stiff competition for the services of this young man.

"I want to go to a place that I feel comfortable and there are people just like me. I am aware of the fact that there are injuries in football, and if I get hurt and can't play ball anymore, I need to be at a school where I can still get a good education and be around good people", said Blake.

The 1st Team All- New England selection mentioned, "I am a big kid amongst the other players in my league and am physically dominant. I have deceptive speed. I use it to my advantage because defenders assume I will be slow because of my size. I work hard on my route running, quickness, catching, blocking and definitely use my strength to my advantage".

His prowess on the football field led his team to an undefeated season, state championship and bowl victory. In 2008, Blake amassed 40 tackles and 14.5 sacks defensively as well as 400 receiving yards and 5 TD's on offense. He also claims a 3.4 GPA and 4.7 40-yard dash speed.

The standout also participates in lacrosse where he made 1st Team All-ISL as a sophomore. He also stays in shape by playing hockey. His goals next football season are to be a strong leader as a captain and win another New England championship. SOR will keep you advised as to his recruitment.
