Sophomore DE Ready to Blast Off

Zach Sparber of Bergen Catholic (NJ) is one a handful of talented sophomores who received varsity playing time for the Crusaders last season. SOR already documented talented So. Tanner McEvoy and we plan to bring you a couple other young Crusader standouts later this week, but right now the spotlight is on Spraber who earns his keep from the defensive end position where he is an absolute terror.

He cant wait for next season to stake his claim to be one of the best players in Bergen County.

Standing 6'3 240 pounds, Zach Sparber already passes the eyeball test. Not only that, but he has the ability on the field as well. Sparber got the opportunity to contribute In 6 varsity game where he was able to make his presence known.

In response to a question about his playing style, he mentioned, "I am very aggressive and get to the football by any means necessary. I make a lot of plays instead of just trying to contain. I'm good for TFLs and sacks. I credit my coming so along quickly to my teammate Jack Koleba who I believe is one of the best lineman in the state. He mentors me and has taught me a lot".

He continued, " My goals for next season are to be a starter on both sides of the ball… and I wouldn't say that an All- County honor would be out of my reach so I am definitely gonna strive for that as well".

Zach is currently receiving letters from Rutgers, Boston College and Pittsburgh. In regards to the Scarlet Knights, he stated, "I know Tanner has a Rutgers offer and he seems really happy about it… and Tanner's brother goes there so I know a lot about the school. I don't know exactly what I wanna do as far as the next level is concerned, but I do know that if they (Rutgers) were to offer me, I would jump at the opportunity or at least highly consider it".

Academics are the most important issue to Zach in regards to selecting a school. He admitted, " I don't wanna think about the next four years, I wanna think about the next forty. Therefore, I wanna select a school that will help me in the long-term". SOR will keep you advised.
