Hogan Ready to Reel Em' in

It's not often that a RB who has played sparingly going into their senior year ends up with scholarship offers before the season begins. Fortunately, that is not the case for Jr. Kamal Hogan who recently received collegiate scholarship offers from Louisville and Syracuse. Hogan is off to a good start and ready to prove that he is one of the best backs in the state.

SOR caught up with Kamal to discuss the issue.

"I got offered by Louisville and Syracuse. Those schools are not bad and I would consider them but I'm still looking to see what else is out there. Honestly, I thought that Rutgers would be my first offer. They have been recruiting me since my sophomore year. Rutgers is a good environment. I went to spring practice and the spring game. I go up there with Steve (Beaharnais) all the time so I know the players and the coaching staff well. They (Rutgers) are definitely on my list of favorites." said Kamal Hogan.

In 2008, the 5'11 200lb, power back earned 711 yards and 10 TD's on a limited amount of carries. As for his running style, Kamal claims to be a little bit of everything; a combination of speed, size and good hands. His efforts along with the talents of former backfield mate Kevin Adams, propelled St. Joes Montvale (NJ) to an 11-1 record and state championship victory over Immaculata (NJ). Kamal was rewarded with 1st Team All- NNJIL honors after the season.

Kamal is receiving heavy attention from Georgia, Pittsburgh, and Purdue. He has met with coaches from Tennessee, Virginia and Florida and those schools seem close to offering as well.

The first thing you notice about Kamal is his powerfully built football frame. He has the perfect body to take the pounding that often comes along with the running back position. When asked about how he attained his athletic physique, he responded, "to be honest with you, all I do is push-ups, sit-ups, squats and leg curls. My dad had my doing calisthenics since I was in 3rd grade. I also run track which I believe has helped with my lower body strength."

Kamal hopes to display his full array of abilities as well as prove that he is more than deserving of his early offers at the Big Time Showcase next week. He mentioned, "I love combines. If it was up to me, I would attend all of those things. My parents don't like them much though. They don't think I need them, but I just like to compete. SOR will keep you posted.
