Justise Hairston

During the 2001 football season, Justise Hairston (RB, 6'1"-210lbs, 4.4 forty) was one of the best running backs in the New England area. Although he missed a number of games due to injury, he still ran for over 1,200 yards. For his efforts, he was named Connecticut Player of the Year. He signed a letter of intent with Iowa but never enrolled in the school due to academic reasons.

Last month, he verbally committed to Rutgers. He chose Rutgers over Purdue, Iowa, and Penn State. He plans on taking his official visit to Rutgers on January 17th and enroll on January 22nd. Although he will be enrolled at Rutgers, he stated that he will be signing his Letter of Intent on February 5th.

Why did he select Rutgers?

He stated that he believes in Greg Schiano and his ability to turn the Rutgers program around. He went on to say that he wanted to be a part of something special.

What is has eligibility status?

Hairston stated that he received his SAT scores and he obtained the necessary scores for eligibility.

After a year without football, what type of shape is he in?

Hairston stated that he has been running and lifting on a regular basis at numerous locations near his home in Connecticut.


Hairston will be joining his high school teammate, Marcus Mitchell (S, 6'1"-210lbs). Both players are expected to enroll in January and participate in spring ball. Hairston stated that he influenced Mitchell to join him at Rutgers.

Hairston stated that he plans on majoring in Education and becoming a history teacher after his playing days are done.
