Recruiting Analysis: OT Chris Fonti

Jr. OL Chris Fonti is one of the top linemen in the state of New Jersey. At 6'7 and 305lbs, his immense size makes him an ideal candidate to play either guard or strong side tackle on the next level. Fonti plays for conglomerate Wayne Hills (NJ) who hasn't lost a game in 4 seasons. He is one of the main reasons why the Patriots have been able to exhibit such dominance over a long period of time.

SOR will take a moment to analyze his film.

Chris Fonti plays extremely aggressive and tough. He definitely isn't afraid to mix it up. Chris also displays the ability to slide his feet during pass protection and do a terrific job keeping his quarterback intact. The progression of his pass protection skills will decide whether he remains at tackle or slides inside on the FBS level.

The film shows that Chris definitely is willing to battle through blocks and play to the whistle. Chris exhibits good leg drive and the determination to make plays at the point of attack. He has the ability to occasionally get to the second level and create gains in situations where the play should have gone for loss.

Fonti is a terrific high school offensive lineman. To continue his success on the next level, he will have to work on his explosiveness off the ball, maintaining a lower pad level, generating more knee bend, and overall foot-speed. Strength will come naturally with the addition of a collegiate workout program. These attributes will give him the ability to reach block more effectively, handle athletic linebackers on the second level and gain up-field leverage.

Take a look at the film below. Unfortunately, the zoom isn't that great, but pay attention to RT #54 and watch Fonti display his high school dominance.
