Guess Who's Eligible

SOR continues to bring you the inside scoop. We were finally able to get in contact with a very excited De'Antwan Williams. The reason why I could literally hear Williams beaming from ear to ear was because his test scores came back this past Friday and he is ...

... qualified to arrive in New Brunswick this summer with the rest of the Scarlet Knights 2009 football signee class.

"I'm so excited. I got my test score on Friday. I ended up with a 890. I prayed that I had passed it because if not, I would have had to take it again on the final day of school and that would have been a lot of pressure. On top of that, all I had to do was finish out the year successfully and I was able to do that." said De'Antwan Williams.

He continued, "I am reporting on June 29th and plan to take my hardest course in the summer so I won't have to take it while going through the season. I can't wait. If I go in and do what I am capable of doing, I believe I can compete for the starting job."

In regards to his training regimen, he mentioned, "I'm doing all types of lifting and speed work. I'm willing to do whatever I have to do to provide whatever they need. I currently measure in at 5'8 194lbs. I'm already big enough and am not trying to get any bigger. I'm sure they are gonna put stuff (good weight) on me when I get up there so I'm not worried about that part."

As far as his strengths, he mentioned, "Through my whole career I have run behind a solid line but there was a good amount of times when I would get hit as soon as I got the ball. I feel that made me stronger. After the first contact I always felt responsible for doing the rest on my own. That is the reason why I became a good inside runner. I was always able to make something out of nothing and right up the middle was the easiest way to get it done."

When asked why he chose Rutgers, he admitted, "Out of all the schools recruiting me, Rutgers came out of nowhere. They began recruiting me the hardest though. Whether it had to do with (expectations for) playing time, academics or the players' (character) on the team, Rutgers had everything I wanted. Also, they were willing to take a chance on me. They told me that they really liked me and would stand by my side whether I qualified at first or not. That really won me over. On top of that, they told me that they wouldn't recruit any more running backs in the same class after me and they stuck to their word. Right then, I knew they were the school for me."

As for his closing message for the State of Rutgers, De'Antwan mentioned, "I just can't wait to get started". Stay tuned as the phenomenon known as De'Antwan "Rocket" Williams begins on the banks of the old Raritan.
