Jashon Dawson Can Ball

Although Passaic HS (NJ) hasn't necessarily been know as a hot-bed of talent, in 2009 they will sport an affective trio on the offensive side of the ball. SOR has already documented the talented OT Jorge Vicioso and WR Najee Salaam. Now meet the third piece to the puzzle; Jr. RB Jashon Dawson, a 5'7 165lb scat-back with a ton of wiggle and potential.

Jashon risked being lost in the shuffle when transferring from Passaic County Tech to Passaic HS. Still, he was able to emerge in his Jr. season with 97 carries for 588 yards and 5 TDs. His production landed him an increasing role throughout the season, where he got better game by game.

"I consider myself an elusive, shifty running back with great balance. I'm more of a Barry Sanders-type runner than anything else. What makes me unique is my small size and speed. I can fit through small holes and finish off runs with good vision."

He continued, "I love the concept of the game. The game of football is great. I like to show people what I can do." said Jashon Dawson.

As for playing with Jorge Vicioso and Najee Salaam, he mentioned, "Its great running with a big guy in front of me like Jorge and when things break to the outside, Najee is there as well. They are both very good players."

According to Jashon, recruitment is going a little slower than desired. "Michigan St. stopped by the other day and were talking to me a little bit. They seemed interested. Other than that, there isn't much going on."

Dawson is doing whatever he can to improve recruitment. He stated, "I reached out to the Rutgers Recruiting office today (yesterday) and they told me to send in some film and a transcript and they'll see what they can do. Rutgers is my number 1 place right now. It's a good school and it's close to home. There is nothing better than staying close to home…. Next to the Big Apple."

This talented young individual also runs track and claims a 10.7 100m, a 21.9 200m and a 51.3 400m. Jashon also recorded a 4.4 forty yard dash at the BigTime Showcase and self- reports a 4.5 shuttle, 350lb squat, 10'2 broad jump, 32' vertical, 185X 8 bench press and 3.2 GPA. He is considering attending Rutgers' Special Teams Camp later this summer to display his athletic ability to the staff.

Jashon wanted to close the article with a statement. He mentioned, "I just want everybody to know that I am serious about this and I'm coming. You will hear a lot from Jashon Dawson in the future." SOR will keep you advised.
