Dustin Thomas Patiently Waiting

Athletic high school quarterbacks sometimes have to deal with being classified as athletes on the FBS level. Jr. Dustin Thomas is in a position where he doesn't necessarily know what position he will end up at for that reason.

He knows one thing though; that he wants to play QB, but he is willing to play wherever he has to in order to compete on football's upper tier. SOR caught up with him to see what's been going on as of late.

"Recruiting was pretty crazy in May. I was hearing from a lot of people. It's kinda slowing up now though although Akron is in the process of offering me. They are just waiting on my transcripts and stuff like that. I also visited Syracuse lately. They are recruiting me as a wide receiver because they just got a commitment from a quarterback. So they are looking at me as either an athlete, wide receiver or DB." said Dustin Thomas.

The St. Augustine (NJ) signal-caller is actively being recruiting by Rutgers, Cincinatti, Purdue, Duke, Virginia, Nebraska and James Madison. "I plan on visiting a few schools. I m not sure if I will be attending many combines because I will be at so many camps. I will be up at Cincinatti this Sunday and Akron late July. Rutgers invited me to come down July 1st while they are having their camp to get in front of the staff. I spoke to coach Smith and he told me that they like me a lot and want to see me. They are interested in me as an athlete."

He continued, "Rutgers is a good place. I would love to be able to play in front of family and friends".

Dustin has been doing some work in the off-season. "I put on 10-15lbs of muscle. I'm up to 195 now. I dropped my forty from a 4.63 to th 4.5's and am working hard to get it in the 4.4 range. I have been working with Coach Wagner over the summer. He is the strength and conditioning coach hired by my school. He has helped me a lot."

SOR will keep you advised.
