Catching up with Ransford Quarrie

Early summer has been quite eventful for 6'1 225lb feature-back, Ransford Quarrie. He is receiving a lot of attention from a few different programs around the country. His battering and bruising style of play on the gridiron is what makes him so coveted amongst college recruiters. He still has yet to receive an offer but one would think that they are soon to come.

"Recruiting is going well. There are a lot of coaches stopping in and a lot of people telling me they want me to attend their camps. They all told me that camp is a big part of their recruiting as far as scholarship offers and all. I have received visits from NC St., Boston College, Villanova, Maryland, Maine, Stony Brook Albany, and Rutgers. I'm definitely attending Rutgers camp." said Ransford Quarrie.

Ransford also plans to camp at all the other schools mentioned above. He will probably not attend another combine due to the heavy load of camps he will make appearances at. Quarrie hopes to visit all of his prospective schools that he can't get to for camp.

"I can't get to every camp but I still want to go to all of the different places. I want to at least be able to take the tours and meet the players and the coaching staffs."

The Notre Dame HS (NJ) prospect claims that NC St. and Boston College are currently recruiting him the hardest and therefore they are his favorites along with Buffalo. He claims to speak to all 3 coaching staffs pretty regularly. Until recently, Quarrie had also been receiving a good deal of information from Alabama, but they seem to have cooled on him a bit.

Quarrie mentioned, "To my knowledge, all of these schools are recruiting me to play running back except for Syracuse who is recruiting me to play linebacker. I love being a running back but if a school is offering me a scholarship to play linebacker I won't turn it down if it is my best option."

Rutgers definitely appears to be in position to solidify a top spot as well. "I talked to Coach Susan not too long ago. He wants me to get in for camp. I've been to the campus, taken tours and have been around the staff a lot already because it's (Rutgers is) so close to home. I have even talked to admissions already. Rutgers is recruiting me as a running back. They saw my film because other players on my team sent out full game film so they saw me play." he said.

Ransford has been somewhat sidelined since the BigTime Showcase where he pulled his hamstring pretty badly so he's just getting back into the flow of working out. "I just recently have been able to run and cut. I am picking up with my speed training in the afternoons."

Quarrie would like to be able to make a collegiate decision pretty soon depending on who offers. "It would be nice to be able to commit at least by early season so I can just concentrate on what I'm doing." He is looking for a school with a nice surrounding city, a good academic graduation rate and a team and coaching staff that he will work well with. SOR will keep you posted as to the progression of Rutgers' involvement.
