T.J. visits Rutgers

T.J. Clemmings, one of the top players in the state of New Jersey, took a visit to New Brunswick last Friday in an effort to learn a bit more about Rutgers University. Clemmings has a Rutgers offer amongst many others and would be a monumental recruit for the Scarlet Knights. SOR caught up with the young man in an attempt to catch his impressions. Take a look.

In response to when asked about the trip, he mentioned, "It was good. Real nice and simple. I talked with Coach Schiano, Coach Hewitt and Coach Emanuel. They showed me around campus, the classes and where the players stay. It was nice. Honestly, a lot of the colleges have the same thing. I'm just looking for a place that I can get better and get to the next level." said T.J. Clemmings.

He continued, "Coach Schiano is a great, real cool guy. I have seen the way he runs his practice is like an NFL practice. He prepares his guys for the next level which is where I want to get to."

Apparently, T.J. was on campus with a couple other highly- touted defensive line prospects; namely, Dominique Easley and Sharrif Floyd. E.J. Fergusson was also scheduled to appear but apparently didn't on that day. He mentioned, "I didn't get to spend too much time with Sharrif because he was in a different group but I know him because we were on the same trip down to Maryland. He seems pretty cool."

When asked about how it would feel to play with the devastating D-Line combining the talents of Easley, Floyd, and Fergusson, he stated, "That would be crazy. Even if just 2 of us got to go to the same school it would be a good thing because we can all play. It would be really cool to play with all of those guys."

T.J. played both DT and DE in 2008. When asked which position he prefers, he stated, "Defensive end. It's easier to get to the quarterback than playing defensive tackle because there the guard and center can just come down on you. From the end you are mostly just dealing with the tackle on the outside. You have a better chance to pick up speed a land a harder hit. It's more fun."

In regards to his latest offer status and number of offers, "I have like 30 somethin'. I lost count. The latest ones I can remember are Ohio St. and Florida though." T.J. currently claims no leaders or favorites, stating, "I don't even know. I'm all over the place right now."

During combine season, T.J. has shown the prowess to turn into a complete football player from formerly being just a truly raw athlete. He spoke about how his transition begun; "(I learned) by watchin' a lot of NFL Network. My channel doesn't change. I study the channel and do what they do because they are in the league."

As far as Rutgers camp, he mentioned, "I got plans so I can't make the (Rutgers Big Man Academy), but I will get up to one of their camps though." SOR will keep you posted.
