Byrnes Trio Visits Rutgers

Byrnes HS in South Carolina has become a hot bed for college talent. They have placed kids at schools all across the nation. And this year's club has approximately 10 players who will eventually sign on with Division 1 programs. SOR caught up with three of those top athletes who visited this weekend.

QB Chas Dodd leads one of the most high-powered offenses in the country. Over the last two years, Dodd has thrown for over 6000 yards and 60 Tds. While his height at 6'0 has scared many Division 1 recruiters away, Rutgers knows what this talented gun-slinger can do. He garnered an official offer after a great performance at the RU Camp and followed that up with a strong showing at the Oregon 7-on-7.

After that visit, Dodd made a return trip to Piscataway this weekend with his mom and teammates Torian Richardson and Marcus Lattimore. Richardson, a top flight WR, is one of Dodd's favorite targets. Lattimore is the #1 ranked RB in the nation. All three had Rutgers offers.

Dodd said "it was a great trip. The coaches and facilities really stand out. We spent a lot of time with (OC) Coach Ciarrocca and he showed me around most of the time. We discussed the offensive system and it is very similar to what we run. It felt good to be there and I think I fit in well. My mom also liked the coaches and the campus. She liked the academics as well. We spoke to the Dean which was good. Also, at the end of the visit, Coach Schiano had a 30 minutes conversation with each of us and it is great to speak with him".

While Dodd is very high on Rutgers, he is not ready to make a commitment quite yet. "I don't think I am going to commit soon. I am also not planning on visiting any other schools this summer. I think I am just going to sit back and wait a bit. I am still getting a lot of letters from other schools".

For Richardson, is was his second time in NJ and the first time on the Rutgers campus. "It was real fun at Rutgers. It is a Big Time atmosphere in the Big East. They have amazing facilities and the coaching staff was great. I am being recruited by Coach Hewitt and we speak about once a week. I have a real strong relationship with him. Coach Schiano is a real straight shooter and a good man. I like how he spoke to us. I can see myself playing there".

Richardson has thus far taken trips to Michigan State and Louisville. He also intends on taking trips to Mississippi State and East Carolina this summer. He has been offered by all these schools, as well as Kansas State, Syracuse, and Tulane.

Lattimore, who is one of the premier prospects in the nation, had some very positive things to say about Piscataway. "The trip to Rutgers was great. I am really happy we made the visit. I learned a lot about the school on the trip".

To Lattimore, it was the people and the system that really stood out. "Coach Schiano is very real. I really liked him. Coach Hewitt is recruiting me and he is real cool. It was good to hang out with him. We talked for some time. He is really down to earth".

"I really like the offense that Rutgers runs. And they really like to run the football. I think that is key".

"The facilities were also very nice. They have a nice addition going on to the stadium. I also spoke to the Dean about academics and what life would be like after football. They really look out for you and make sure you are prepared for life after football. They have moved up my list".

Next up for Lattimore will be a trip to Penn State next weekend. "I am really looking forward to that trip".

Lattimore has taken trips to Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina, Georgia, Oregon and Tennessee. He states distance will not be a factor in his decision.
