Byrnes QB Discusses RU Offer

Jr. QB Chas Dodd of Byrnes HS (SC) is an accurate pocket passing threat and modern day gun slinger. Although he is often overshadowed by playing with two of the most-heralded recruits from the state of South Carolina in RB Marcus Lattimore and WR Torrian Richardson, whom both have offers from the who's who of college football, Dodd is proving to also have the skills of an elite collegiate athlete.

All 3 of these prospects recently took a trip to Rutgers University. SOR was able to catch up to Chas Dodd to get his first-hand impressions.

"I took a visit up this past weekend. It went real well. I got to see everything. The big thing was getting my mom up to visit. We took a look at the facilities, met with the coaches and also had the opportunity to meet the Dean. My mom was impressed especially with the academic part. I already knew I liked it because I camped there. I was up for a couple days. They just wanted to see me do a couple things. Two days later Coach Schiano called, told me he was pleased with my camp performance and offered me. I like Coach Schiano because he is a Godly man and a great guy. I like him and what he is doing with the players and the program" said Chas Dodd.

He continued, "They told me that they liked my arm strength and my footwork. That's what really impressed them. They also liked how well I threw the football and my accuracy. I like Rutgers because they run an offense similar to what we run in high school. I want to go to a place where I can bond with the staff and not just about football. .. And as for academics, Rutgers is very high."

Dodd is a 6'0 190-pound 2nd Team All-State selection. He passed for 3,000 yards and 29 TD's this past season. He has one other offer from Georgia Southern which he picked up shortly after the Rutgers offer. Wake Forest is suppossedly on the brink of offering as well. When asked if Rutgers is currently the frontrunner, Chas responded, "yeah, definitely". Dodd claims that his commitment to a university could come soon or he might wait a bit. Based on a few recent terrific camp performances, there are additional universities whom have also registered the scent.

He mentioned, "I'm being recruited by a few people. Wake Forest, South Carolina and Virginia send me the most stuff and are recruiting me the hardest."

As for the impressions of his two highly-regarded teammates who also took the trip, he stated, "They liked it a lot too. We found out together that Rutgers is only 30 minutes from New York City. We didn't know that and were excited about it. We all liked Coach Schiano and had a good time". Stay tuned.
