FL Standout Addresses Rutgers Visit

Jeremy Deering of Leto Senior HS (FL) is a terrific athlete with approximately 25 offers. The 6'0 190-pound Multi-purpose athlete obviously possesses the skills desired by the top programs in the country. Rutgers happens to be one of the schools who have offered the talented young athlete. Jeremy took a 1-day visit up to Piscataway during camp to assess what the Scarlet Knights have to offer.

SOR recently caught up to him to find out the scoop.

"Rutgers is a nice place. I went up there this summer. I didn't participate at camp but I visited while it was going on and got to take a tour and all. They have nice coaches and a nice atmosphere. Coach Schiano and Coach Hewitt are recruiting me. They want me to play receiver. They told me that at grade out higher than anyone else on film at running back, receiver and defensive back… on whatever scale they use." said Jeremy Deering.

He continued, "Schools can't call until September 1st. I can only call them. I spoke to Rutgers last week. I called Coach Schiano and he basically just asked me how I liked the visit. When I was up there, I got to spend more time with him and talk about a few things. He told me about what they are trying to accomplish and we also talked about academics and others things too. It was good."

When asked if Rutgers is up there in regards to consideration, he simply answered, "yes".

According to Scout.com, Jeremy is ranked as a 3-star running back with loads of potential at the next level. As of last year he played mostly quarterback after the third game of the season due to a team need. Jeremy is versatile enough to help a team a t either wide receiver, defensive back, in the slot or at running back. He accumulated approximately 1100 yards on the ground last season as well as 12 total touchdowns while playing out of position.

He mentioned, "As a running back, I have great speed and vision and as a receiver, I am very good at getting open and my favorite route is either the seam or fly route. I can play a lot of different positions and be good at all of them." He is listed as running as fast as a 4.5 flat forty.

Deering is looking to attend an institution that presents strong academics, early playing time and the right kind of people. Proximity to home will place no part in his decision-making process. He intends to cut down his list during the fall and make his actual commitment at the "last minute". SOR will keep you notified.
