2011's Sparber Poised for Big Year

So. Zach Sparber of Bergen Catholic (NJ), who competed in 6 varsity games this past season, is looking forward to an upcoming season where he will start as his team's OT and defensive end. Sparber has completely utilized the summer by dropping a ton of body fat and adding muscle making him now a solid 6'3 240 lbs. Zach will be one of the key contributors to the Crusaders' title run in 2009.

Let's take a look at what Zach had to say.

"In the past I have gotten letters from Rutgers and Boston College although I haven't received much of anything lately probably because I haven't attended any camps or combines. Instead I have been focusing on my team. Next offseason when I will be preparing to go into my senior year, I will take part in things like that." said Zach Sparber.

He continued, "If I could go anywhere in the world it would be Duke. They are my # 1 school followed by Rutgers. Duke hasn't sent me anything so they are more of a reach school. I have just always liked them because of their academics. Plus, I feel like they are a Division 1 school that I could go to and make a real contribution. As for Rutgers, it is real nice and close to home. There is a good shot that my teammates Doug Rigg and Tanner McEvoy might go there and is a prestigious program that I have always watched and liked since I was a little kid… even when they were not really that good."

When asked about his aspirations for 2009, he stated, "The team looks very good. The line is progressing nicely. The receivers are good… quarterback good. I think we are gonna surprise some people because we are flying under the radar. I feel we will have a good year. I want 2 rings on my fingers… one from this year and one from next."

In regards to his athletic transformation, he mentioned, "I have been doing a lot of strength work. I am working on lower body strength a lot and squatting all the time. I can squat 400 pounds 2 times. We haven't 1 rep maxed yet this year. We are practicing 4 times a week as well as running and lifting. I am also doing 100 pushups a day on my own."
