Opoku Opening things back up

Talented 6'5 215 lb Andrew Opoku has opened up his recruitment again. The former North Brunswick (NJ) standout was a late addition to Temple Owls' class of 2009. According to Opoku, after signing with the Owls on Signing Day this past February, he soon came to learn that Temple had over exhausted their resources and didn't actually have a scholarship to contribute to him.

Andrew was then forced to rebound and take a different course of action.

To Temple's credit, they then stepped up and helped land Andrew at the Fork Union Military Academy (VA), which is known for developing top-tier football talent as well as instilling discipline in young people. Opoku arrived last Monday, and up to this point is apparently doing quite well showcasing his tremendous range and athleticism. "They have me playing wide receiver and safety. We had our first scrimmage the other day. It went real well for my first time being out there. On offense, I had two catches and one went for a touchdown", said Andrew Opoku.

Opoku has previously been known for having character issues, but claims to have cleaned up his act. "I have become a lot more mature and am putting a bigger emphasis on being a great teammate and an even better student. This summer I took some summer courses to get my mind right and did well in them. I have also been working out real hard and am in tip-top shape. I am much stronger and am running my 40 in the 4.5 range now" said Opoku.

As for his new life at the academy, he mentioned, "It's pretty hard out here, but I am getting used to it. It's real strict and people rarely have anything nice to say to you, but that's what I need. The coaches have been good to me and I'm learning a lot. I'm here to just do my best, stay focused and prove myself as an individual, student, and an athlete."

Apparently, Temple is still in contact with Opoku and is hoping to get him back on campus as soon as possible. "Temple is still in it. I'm disappointed I didn't get in but, I don't hold any grudges. I still like them and am thankful for them helping me find a destination, but I am also interested in schools like Rutgers, Penn State, and Virginia Tech. I'm just looking for the best possible situation for me, but right now I'm focused on what I have to do here. I'm just taking it one day at a time and allowing all of the other stuff to work itself out."

Rutgers was previously a major player in the recruitment Opoku. He stated, "I still like Rutgers as much as any other school. I had a real good relationship with Coach Schiano where we would talk all the time. He is not just a great coach but a great man. On signing day, in order to be able to weigh all of my options, I was waiting for a call from the (RU) coaching staff letting me know I had an offer I could commit to. They were waiting to see what a couple other kids were gonna do who were signing day decisions. I guess those kids signed with them because unfortunately, that call never came. Therefore I signed with Temple who I also liked very much". SOR will keep you updated.
