Keon Braswell, 6-1, 185, 4.33, Miami Norland HS
I couldn't catch up with Keon to talk about his verbal but his dad answered my questions about Keon and his verbal to Rutgers.
What offers did he have?
"Florida State, Florida, Missouri and Colorado"
On his visit to Rutgers
"He liked it a lot. He liked the gym and he liked the coaches and the atmosphere. He said he could live there for four years."
Why did he choose Rutgers?
"He has a sister living in Teaneck but he told me that he just mainly liked the place, it was relaxing and comfortable to him."
How solid is this commitment?
"It is a solid commitment. He is not going to take other visits. The decision is up to him but I think it is solid."
Braswell was ranked the 81st best player in the State of Florida by the Daytona Beach News Journal going into this season. He is noted a physical "cover guy" whose punishing hits either separate receivers from the ball or make them remember that Keon will be out there for the next play.
"Keon played on the State Championship team. The beat Dillard, Carol City, Northwestern and others. Keon broke up the pass that got them to the state championship game. That play, on a sixty yard pass, got him the award for the "best performance of the week." He was All Dade County and All South Florida. He was rated the number two player in Dade County. He had over 70 tackles despite missing 2 games with an injury. He is a real hitter. He'll run you down and hit you. When he hits you, he hurts you. He is a good cover guy who can play corner or safety. He can cover but come up in run support when he has to. He can close 20 yards in no time.
He can kick the ball also. I have seen him kick the ball from the 30 yard line into the end zone. I have seen him do it.
He ran a 4.3 at a football camp at Michigan State.
He is a great all around athlete."
