Greene Making a Welcomed Contribution

Khaseem Greene is not necessarily a name that many Rutgers fans thought would be rolling off the tip of their tongues too often this season. Never-the-less, since the spring, Greene has displayed the ability to consistently find his way around the football.

The former standout from Elizabeth HS (NJ) took the long route through a PG year at the Avon Old Farms School (CT) to finally end up in Piscataway where he is becoming a difference-maker.

Early in the first quarter against the FIU Golden Panthers, Khaseem intercepted his first career pass and returned the pick 32 yards to the FIU 32-yard line.

"I wasn't expecting it because I was going to hit the receiver, but once I saw that the receiver bent in and the ball kind of drifted, once it hit me, to hear the crowd roar was special. Catching an interception at the college level and hearing the crowd go crazy is something I've always dreamed of" said Khaseem Greene.

Greene responded to questions about the defensively lackluster play in the previous 2 games of the season.

"It just shows that although that was a letdown for us, we rebounded, put it in our past and kept chopping. We didn't let it sit on our minds too long although we didn't forget about it" said Green. "(Against FIU), I would say we did pretty good. We didn't play perfect but for the most part we played well as a secondary. Our linebackers, and honestly our whole defense stepped it up."

Although the defensive effort on Saturday was quite impressive, there were obvious miscues in the fourth quarter, allowing 15 points to be scored late in the game.

"You never wanna give up points at the end because you are looking to shut the team out, especially when you played good the whole game. (Unfortunately), at the end they scored, but it's just gonna be a learning experience for us. Were gonna take that and make positives out of it."

The expectations for the Scarlet Knights defense are incrementally becoming higher due to the defense seemingly performing better each week.

"We just have to prepare, gotta chop, watch more film, I have to get my body right, and as a team we just have to be ready for the next opponent."
