Gameday: Rutgers @ Maryland

So far, it is looking like a pretty good day for football with temperatures in the high 60's at Byrd Stadium. Unfortunately, there is an 80% chance of precipitation in the afternoon, which could possibly make this a quite sloppy affair.

Regardless of the weather, today, there will be many questions answered in regards to 2 teams attempting to regain consistency and overall, just get back to their winning ways against decent opposition.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will have many questions answered today, such as, how is the offensive line going to execute after not quite performing to their potential in the first 3 contests? How will the defensive line respond to being pushed all over the field in the 34-24 loss to Maryland 2 years ago? Will Tom Savage see the field after suffering what many believe to be a concussion and perform like one of the most highly touted high school quarterbacks in the country? Will the defense that showed a spark against FIU prove to actually be getting better or was the previous game's 54 minute shutout performance due to playing lesser competition? After receiving the luxury of playing 3 straight home games, can the Scarlet Knights win on the road?

The Maryland Terrapins will find out if their defense who allowed 32 points to FCS opponent Middle Tennessee St. has adapted to their new 3-4 defense and can get back to playing with the intensity that they did so in the spring? Will Ralph Fridgen be able to maintain his elite out of conference winning record of 23-9 with 19 of those wins coming at home? Will the return of impact players, junior LT Bruce Campbell and senior safety Jamari McCoullough, both of whom have been out since the season opener due to injury, be enough to put the Terps over the top? Have the Maryland Terrapins finally learned to hold onto the rock? Will QB Chris Turner be able to relive the heroics that he displayed 2 seasons ago when he came off the bench for an injured Jordan Steffy and salvaged an upset oven the then 10th ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights?

Fans should probably expect a pretty conventional, down-hill type of performance from the 2 teams, with hard-nosed play-calling and a lot of explosive hits. Although early in the season, this is a game highly important to both programs that can indeed set the tone for the season. It may just come down to who wants it more.
