Gary Waters of Rutgers and Louis Orr of Seton Hall may be the most religious coaches in the Big East Conference. Each starts his postgame press conference by giving honor to God. And each may have relied on a little divine intervention in getting wins over Syracuse and Georgetown on Wednesday.

Cappie Pondexter scored 28 points and contributed a key late basket that helped Rutgers forge a 67-59 victory over Old Dominion last night in Norfolk, Va. Pondexter, who was held scoreless for the initial 16 minutes of the second half, responded with a timely hoop that capped a decisive 8-1 run for a 55-49 lead with four minutes showing.

NORFOLK, Va. - The road hasn't been as kind as the Rutgers Athletic Center, but last night the Rutgers women's basketball team got a big win at Old Dominion, 67-59, as Cappie Pondexter poured in 28 points. Pondexter scored 20 points in the first half, making 8 of 12 shots from the floor.

NORFOLK, Va. - Rutgers' All-Big East candidate Cappie Pondexter got a major assist from her teammates Friday night. Not the traditional kind leading to the 5-foot-9 guard's sweet jumpers - though the Scarlet Knights tried - but with defense. "Defense can always be there," Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer said after her team beat Old Dominion, 67-59, in the final non-conference test for each team. Rutgers (12-5) returns to the Big East with a home game against Miami on Tuesday night.

Chelsea Newton can score a variety of different ways. A 45 percent field-goal shooter who converts 41 percent from 3-point range, Rutgers' sophomore guard can score inside or out. There's the "Kiki move" that Newton makes look so easy, a shot where she drives on her defender, then fades away. There's the "Wilson hop" a shot that ends with a jump-stop in the lane. And then there's the move that changed the momentum of Rutgers' 67-59 win over Old Dominion on Friday night.
