D.C. WR favors RU; hoping for offer

A receiver from a Washington, D.C., says he favors Rutgers, and added the coaching staff told him a scholarship offer was on the way. He is also getting interest from the Big 12 and the Big Ten. He talks about what he likes about Rutgers, and his connection to Scarlet Knights quarterback Tom Savage. He also discusses his style of play, and how he would fit into Rutgers' offense.

Coolidge (Wash., D.C) receiver Martize Barr said his recruitment is picking up, and believes he is close to getting a written offer from Rutgers.

And Barr said one of the major reasons he is listing Rutgers as his top choice is an experience he had a few years ago when he attended a summer camp and got to catch passes from current Scarlet Knights quarterback Tom Savage.

"He was at the Rutgers camp, the big-time showcase camp, and we really connected,'' the 6-foot, 195-pound Barr said. "It was a lot of fun with him.''

Barr said he has offers from Kansas and New Mexico, and was told recently he received a verbal offer from Rutgers.

He is also getting interest from Iowa, and D.C.-area schools Howard, Hampton and Old Dominion.

"Right now, Rutgers is No. 1,'' Barr said. "The receivers they have play a lot like the game that I play. I like the pro-style offense. I know Tom Savage, and the coaches. When I talk to the recruiting coach (Fred Mariani), he seems real cool.''

Barr is being recruited by defensive line coach Gary Emanuel, whom Barr classified as "a nice coach, and I have a real connection with the coaching staff.''

Barr said he has 33 catches for 697 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned two punts for touchdowns.

"I break a lot of tackles,'' he said. "The first man, I love to make miss. Once you make that first man miss, there are not a lot of people that are going to get you.''
