Shag comes alive

Shagari Alleyne have been described as a player with a great upside. Yesterday Shag's upside arrived.

February 18, 2003 -- It was a performance that was difficult to forget.

After an inconsistent junior year, Rice's Shagari Alleyne capped a memorable CHSAA playoff run last March with the game of his life: 12-for-12 from the field, 25 points and a city championship in the Raiders' win over All Hallows.

Finally, after months - years, even - of anticipation, the 7-foot-2 center appeared to be the dominant force so may thought he could be. But it seems that Alleyne may have reached his pinnacle during that tournament and that game, instead of that being a sign of things to come. He doesn't think so.

"I want to go out with a bang," said Alleyne, who is committed to Rutgers. "I think I can achieve the same things I did in last year's playoffs again. I know I can."
