Fla. DE getting RU offer

The Scarlet Knights showed their recruitment prowess in Florida with the 2010 class, and now they are active again in the Sunshine State. This defensive lineman from South Florida was informed Tuesday he will be getting a written offer from Rutgers. He has already visited the campus once, and talks about whether he will make another journey to see it again.

One of Anthony Rabasa's best friends attends Rutgers, and now he will at least have the opportunity to join him, if he so chooses.

Rabasa, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive end from Christopher Columbus High (Miami), was informed by Rutgers on Tuesday he is getting a written offer.

"I'm very excited about it,'' Rabasa said. "I've been waiting for it for a while. I'm glad I finally got it and now I can talk to a few people and see what they think I should do about it, whether they should be one of my top schools.''

Rabasa is close friends with Scarlet Knights red-shirt freshman Antwan Lowery and senior-to-be Antonio Lowery, both of whom also starred at Christopher Columbus High.

In fact, Rabasa joined Antwan on a visit to Rutgers last spring, and plans on making a return trip within the next six weeks to check out the program again.

"I'm definitely going to get up there again,'' Rabasa said. "As soon as I can find out a schedule for a plane ticket, I'll go up there again, probably for spring practice or something.''

Rabasa's recruitment exploded recently. Miami and Florida State were his first offers, but in the last three weeks he said was told he was getting offers from the Scarlet Knights, North Carolina State, Florida International, Minnesota and Maryland.

And he has a simple reason for the surge in interest.

"I sent out my highlight tape,'' he said, "and I'm sending out others to a few more schools, so I should get a few more in the next couple of weeks.''

However, Rabasa isn't ready to begin narrowing his list, or naming favorites.

"It's still too early for that,'' he said. "I'm still trying to get my offers lined up, and then I'll make my choices and see what schools I should start looking into.''
