Another Florida Athlete Offered by Rutgers

Rutgers continues to dole out offers in Florida, and 6-foot-3 1/2 inch, 192-pound athlete from the Gulf Coast picked up an offer last week. The player says he will visit Rutgers in the spring or summer, and added he is building a strong relationship with one of the Scarlet Knights assistant coaches. The player has more than a dozen offers, and says he clocks in at 4.3 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Nature Coast Tech (Brooksville, Fla.) athlete Ja'Juan Story has more than a dozen scholarship offers, including the one he received from Rutgers last week.

And while he talks with coaches from many of the schools, he said Rutgers receivers coach P.J. Fleck has stood out to him.

"He's really nice,'' Story said. "He's giving me quotes and stuff because I told him I want to be a leader for our team because in the past years, we really didn't have a leader. We needed one, though, so I wanted to be a leader this year and make sure my team has a leader, and someone to look up to.

"I asked him to send me quotes, and he said, ‘Yeah, that's good,' because he starts off his days with quotes, too. We talk on the phone for a while and get to know each other. He's really nice. I like him. I want to go up there and visit.''

The 6-foot-3½ inch, 192-pound Story runs the triple option for Nature Coast, but most of the schools are recruiting him to play receiver. The exception is Georgia Tech, where he could run the Yellowjackets' option.

He rushed for 265 yards and two scores, and had 13 receptions for 423 yards and three scores. He said he runs a 4.3 (seconds) in the 40-yard dash, and that speed is the primary reason so many schools are recruiting him.

However, despite living about 30 minutes from South Florida's campus, Story doesn't feel an allegiance to the Bulls, nor is he high on any of the Florida programs.

"I really don't want to be in state,'' Story said. "I don't want to be too close to family, or too close to friends, because I don't want them to influence me to do something bad. It's not like I would do it, but I don't want to take a chance.''

Story plans to take several trips in the spring and summer to check out programs, and the Scarlet Knights are on his list.

"I want to see Rutgers, I want to see Ohio State and I want to see Penn State and Georgia Tech,'' he said. "I want to see a lot of them. I want to see West Virginia. I want to get to know the schools and the coaches before I can make a decision. I want to get to know everything, what's what, before I go to a school.

"My recruiting coordinator at school said we could take a road trip and go visit a lot of schools, and after that I would probably make a decision. In Florida, I know I could visit there, but I don't want to just go to them. If I did visit only the in-state schools, that's not really looking at all my opportunities.''
