Where does Rutgers Stand with Calhoun?

Middletown (N.J.) North High defensive end/tight end Shilique Calhoun is one of the rising class of 2011 prospects on the Jersey Shore, and he was supposed to go head to Rutgers for a weekend visit. What happened with it? Also, plenty of schools have been through Middletown North during the spring evaluation period, and he has a rough outline for schools he will be visiting in the summer.

Middletown (N.J.) North High defensive end Shilique Calhoun was supposed to make an unofficial visit to Rutgers over the weekend, but it had to be postponed because a personal issue arose.

It comes as Calhoun's recruitment is starting to intensify with programs like Penn State, West Virginia, James Madison, Louisville, Notre Dame and Connecticut coming to the school during the spring evaluation period.

He added Rutgers is supposed to stop by this week, and added the Scarlet Knights remain part of his recruitment, and he plans to reschedule his visit for later this month.

"I'm interested in them, of course,'' the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Calhoun said. "I don't really know exactly where the interest level is in them, but yeah, I still have interest.''

Calhoun was offered by Pittsburgh earlier this month to go along with offers from Syracuse and the Scarlet Knights.

"It's getting out pretty fast,'' Calhoun said of his recruitment. "In a way, I'm starting to form a list.''

Calhoun plays tight end and defensive end for Middletown North, but most of the schools are looking at him on the defensive side.

As for the summer, Calhoun said he sketched a schedule, but it is not yet complete.

"I want to go check out Notre Dame and Louisville and a couple of other schools,'' Calhoun said. "Those are schools I haven't visited yet, and I want to visit as many schools as possible before I make a decision.''
