St. Benedict's Wing to Visit RU Wednesday

Rutgers already has one member of its 2010 recruiting class from St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.) in forward Gilvydas Biruta, and new coach Mike Rice is trying to add a second member from the school in wing Mike Poole. He received an offer from Rutgers, and will be on campus Wednesday to meet with Rice. He is also being recruited by Seton Hall and Boston College.

Rutgers coach Mike Rice will get a face-to-face meeting with St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.) wing Mike Poole, and an official visit could be coming shortly thereafter.

Poole will make an unofficial visit to Rutgers on Wednesday, and then decide whether to begin an official visit Monday.

"My mentor is discussing it,'' Poole said. "I'm interested in the school, but I'm letting my mentor handle it. I'm going to worry about the schoolwork. He'll get it done.''

Poole's mentor, Nate Blue, said he spoke to Rice on Tuesday.

"They offered him,'' Blue said. "We're going up there tomorrow for an unofficial visit to check things out, and to see the campus and everything else.''

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound Poole, part of the 2010 recruiting class, is also being recruited by Seton Hall and Boston College.

"Tons of schools are calling in the last day-and-a-half,'' Blue said. "Some kids are just late in the process. He wanted to wait and see who would get the Seton Hall job, the Rutgers job and everything.

"There is no favorite. We're going to visit Rutgers, visit Seton Hall and visit Boston College.''

Blue added more schools could become involved.

"I think it's still early,'' Blue said. "A lot of things will get decided in the next two weeks.''

Poole's teammate at St. Benedict's, forward Gilvydas Biruta, already signed with Rutgers.
