Among the glut of talent at St. Peter's Prep is four-star safety Sheldon Royster, who is also getting plenty of interest as a running back.
"I've been playing running back since I started playing football, and then when I got to Prep, I could have gone either way,'' the 6-foot, 190-pound Royster said. "Savon said he had running back. He had that covered, so I decided to go to the other side of the ball and help out the defense.''
Royster said he holds approximately two dozen offers, including the one that came Sept. 1 from Rutgers, and the early impression the home school made is sticking with him.
"I like Rutgers,'' said Royster, who lives in nearby Woodbridge. "They're one of my favorite schools.''
"Some schools feel a certain way about me more than others,'' Royster said. "The schools that do recruit me the hardest, they tell me a lot about their school and I learn a lot more than the other schools that are kind off laid back with it.''
Royster's lone visit of the spring was to Rutgers, a school he knows well. But before he narrows down his list at the end of the summer, he plans to make unofficial visits to a few handfuls of schools.
"I'm going to wait it out and see as many schools as possible, then take my official visits and take it from there,'' said Royster, who is planning a signing day announcement. "I plan on having it narrowed down before my season starts so I know where I want to take my official visits.''
"In early July, I want to visit some schools down south,'' he said. "I want to visit a couple schools in Florida, I want to try and visit South Carolina and North Carolina, Georgia. Just some of the schools down there.''
