Basketball Recruiting Notes

Basketball Recruiting - Cedric Jackson who is being recruiting by the Knights

Over the last two-plus decades, I have seen a lot of great single-game performances by South Jersey boys' basketball players. Glassboro High's Larry Bland, Paulsboro's Quincy Lee and Eastern's Mike Edwards would have to be on that list. Ditto Pitman's Joe Crispin and Camden's Billy Culbertson, Kevin Walls and Dajuan Wagner.

The had-to-see-it-to-believe-it performance by Northern Burlington's Cedric Jackson on Monday ranks right with them. In fact, it ranks toward the top, simply because it wasn't in a one-sided win.

Shagari Alleyne who is reportedly going to play for the Knights

Sources told The Post that 7-foot-2 Rice center Shagari Alleyne, who has verbally committed to Rutgers, is reconsidering his decision and has contacted St. John's.

And an update on Marquise Webb and Darryl Watkins

Each week, The Record holds a fast, fun, and frank Q&A with a North Jersey sports participant. This week, writer Dan Rosen spoke with Paterson Catholic basketball player Marquis Webb.

Q: You scored 60 points against Glen Rock to break Darryl Watkins' single-game scoring record of 54 points he set just a week earlier. What's it like to have the scoring record at a school that Tim Thomas went to?

A: It's great. It' s just something other guys would like to break. Hopefully another guy comes along and breaks it.
