Greg Killings is a 6'10" 220 pound center that plays for Miami Northwestern High School. He is a big boy that looks like a college center and moves like a rabbit. His career has been one of unfulfilled potential. Some days he looks awesome and other days he is there in body but not in spirit or action. The good news is that recently he has shown some more enthusiasm and intensity in his play.
He averages a double double with about 4 blocks per game thrown in. The other night in the 6A Quarterfinals against Homestead, Greg scored 18 of his teams 58 points in a 20-point victory. Greg took an official visit to Stanford in January and is allegedly down to Rice and Rutgers. He is fully qualified and has a 3.95 unweighted average that mushrooms to 5.2 weighted including AP and Honors courses. He ranks 3 in a class of 466.
Northwestern is listed as the number 7 team statewide by an independent poll of Florida newspapers on a team that has won 22 games. There are at least 4 major Division I prospects on the team and they play a highly competitive schedule. They played Brookhaven up in Orlando in December. Brookhaven has two seniors that will play at Oklahoma next year.
There are various opinions as to how good Greg really is. Stanford, Rice, Marquette and Rutgers were the only major DI teams to follow Greg. He allegedly has an offer on the table from Rice. Greg has received interest from some lesser teams like Florida International, Florida A and M and UNC-Asheville.
Breakdown Florida, a Florida based magazine, rated Greg as a ninth team preseason All State selection. On the other hand, Prep Spotlight, a national recruiting magazine, listed Greg as the nineteenth best center nationally.
Only time will tell if he is a late developing star or just another guy that has unfulfilled potential.
