Is Sumler Still Planning a Rutgers Visit?

Christopher Columbus High (Miami) four-star receiver Tacoi Sumler recently returned from a vacation on the west coast. He is readying to trim his list, and has talked for months about his desire to visit Rutgers this summer. Sumler spoke with about his recruitment, and whether a trip to New Jersey is in the cards. Come inside to learn what he had to say.

Christopher Columbus High (Miami) four-star receiver Tacoi Sumler is back from his west coast excursion in which he mixed a family visit with five unofficial visits to Pac-10 schools.

While getting closer to naming a top five, possibly this week, he is also trying to figure out if the finances are available for him to make a trip to Rutgers, which he insisted he wanted to do.

"That's still possible," Sumler said. "I'm still considering that. After I talk to my father and see what my top is looking like, I'll know for sure if I'll be able to get up there."

Sumler, who is 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, is the No. 26-rated receiver by in the 2011 class, and among those telling him what Rutgers has to offer is former Scarlet Knights receiver Tim Brown, who is from Miami.

"Right now I'm just relaxing and lifting weights," Sumler said. "I don't know about any other trips yet. I think I'm going to try and cut it down to a top five this week, and then make my visits."

During the weeks spent on the west coast, Sumler visited USC, UCLA, California, Stanford and Oregon.

"Every school had its disadvantages and advantages," Sumler said. "But the top two schools I was looking at were Oregon and Stanford, and I was really impressed with both."

As with many recruits, the facilities at Oregon were eye-popping to Sumler, while the vastness of Stanford's campus caught him by surprise.

"The facilities (at Oregon) and the school overall, the coaches are top notch and they showed great hospitality," Sumler said. "Their facilities are the best. It's like an NFL locker room and weight room. It can't get much better.

"Stanford's campus was huge. That's what really caught me. It's like a little city. They've got their own mall, they've got their own golf course. Everything is big there."
