SJU Team Camp Preview

Saint Joseph's Commuter Team Camp, which runs from Thursday through Saturday of this week, will welcome a number of the Philadelphia areas better high school teams onto campus. Today, we will take a look at some of the top teams and players.

Camp begins on Thursday with four sets of games, beginning at 6 o'clock. Friday follows an identical schedule, with games at 6, 7:10, 8:20, and 9:30. Saturday also features four sets of games, with action starting at 9:30 am. Games will take place both at Hagan Arena and on the University's Merion campus.

The top team participating in camp is the reigning state champion Chester Clippers. The Clippers knocked off Lower Merion (PA) in both the district and state championship games, and are led by consensus five-star junior Rondae Jefferson. He has help though, from the likes of Erikk Wright, Darius Robinson, and Richard Granberry.

Philadelphia Electric and Technology is another team participating in team camp. In fact, PET will square off against Chester on Friday evening. PET features a number of Division 1 prospects in 2013s Hakeem Baxter and Jai Williams, as well David George, who is headed to prep school next year. Baxter has interest from a number of CAA programs, while George has serious interest from Holy Cross, Bucknell, Brown, Davidson, Iona, and more. Williams, a big-bodied 6'9 post, is one of Saint Joseph's top recruiting targets in the class of 2013.

La Salle Prep is another local school with Division 1 talent. 2013 point guard Amar Stukes and 2013 wing Stephen Smith, who both run with the Jersey Shore Warriors on the AAU circuit, are worth keeping a close eye on. Stukes is a crafty point guard with solid size, while Smith is a 6'6 wing who can knock down shots from the perimeter.

The Haverford School (PA) has itself positioned for a very strong coming couple seasons. Coach Henry Fairfax has two of the better 2015 guards in the area in Sam Foreman and Levan Alston. Foreman, a 6-foot point guard, and Alston, a 6'4 shooting guard, are both legitimate college prospects. They are joined on the wing by 2014 6'5 Eric Anderson. I am looking forward to getting another good look at these three.

Other schools participating this weekend include Germantown Academy, Westtown Friends, Tatnall (DE), Cherry Hill East (NJ), Malvern Prep, Rancocas Valley (NJ), and many more.

Hawk Hill Hardwood will be in attendance for Friday's games, with recaps and player notes up on Saturday.
