DC wing looking at September visits

While Nate Britt, Roddy Peters, and Kris Jenkins are the biggest names on the DC Assault 17u team, another player on the roster is on the radar of a number of Atlantic 10 programs. On Friday, Hawk Hill Hardwood caught up with Ahmad Fields to see where his recruitment stood.

Early in July, during the first live period, I caught Ahmad Fields, a 6'5 wing from Washington DC, at the Hoop Group Elite Camp. Yesterday, Hawk Hill Hardwood spoke with the talented lefty wing about how the remainder of his summer went and where he stood in terms of unofficial and official visits.

"We played in Milwaukee and I didn't play that well," Fields began, speaking about the second July live period. "Then in Vegas we made it to the quarterfinals where we lost to Net Gain Sports. The team played better there, and I played well in that tournament."

Fields has taken four unofficial visits to date. "I visited St. Joe's back in April," Fields explained. In addition to Saint Joseph's, Fields has taken unofficial visits to George Washington, Richmond, and Towson. All of those schools are still involved in his recruitment.

"I do know of one official visit I will take once school starts back up in September," said Fields. "I know I'm going to take an official to St. Joe's." While St. Joe's is the only school that Fields has scheduled at the moment, he explained that he "would be taking other official visits" in the fall. He was just unsure what schools he would be visiting at the moment.

Saint Joseph's is actively recruiting a handful of wing guards in the class of 2013. Ahmad Fields is one of the players certainly getting a lot of attention from the Saint Joseph's coaching staff. At 6'5, Fields is a very good athlete, can knock down shots from the perimeter, and is tough to stop going to the rim. In addition, Ahmad possesses great length and a very wide frame. Offensively, he is capable of playing both the shooting guard and small forward positions, and defensively his strength, length, and athleticism also allows him to defend multiple positions.

After spending his high school career, to this point, at Blue Ridge Academy in Virginia, Fields confirmed that he will indeed be transferring for his senior year. He will attend Massanutten Academy this year.

Ahmad Fields is one of four or five 2013 targets for Saint Joseph's at the wing. The 6'5 lefty has the look, and the schools to match, of a solid player in the Atlantic 10.
