Saint Joseph's announces 2012-2013 schedule

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's has announced its 2012-13 men's basketball schedule, as the Atlantic 10 Conference has finalized its full league schedule. The Hawks are slated for six national television appearances as part of the Atlantic 10 package, with more television games to be announced.

The Hawks will host 15 home games at the Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena and will play two contests at The Palestra.

With the addition of Butler and VCU into the Atlantic 10 beginning this season, each team's conference schedule will consist of 16 games. SJU will face each A-10 team once, but will play Fordham both home and away. The A-10's schedule includes a league-record 56 nationally-televised games and 19 regionally televised games as part of the conference's agreement with its media partners.

Among the highlights of the Hawks' schedule is an appearance in the 2012 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. SJU has been designated as one of the regional hosts and opens the season versus Yale on November 12 in Hagan Arena. The Hawks will then join BYU, Florida State and Notre Dame for the remainder of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on November 16 and 17 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Saint Joseph's returns home for a pair of games, taking on Harvard on November 20 and American on November 28, before going on the road for three straight. The Hawks are set to continue the rivalry with fellow Jesuit school Creighton by visiting the Bluejays on December 1 and will then travel to Coppin State on December 4 and visit Big 5 foe Villanova on December 11, with the telecast on ESPNU.

SJU will play a pair of games around the Christmas holiday at Hagan Arena, taking on Fairfield on December 22 and Iona on December 28, and then partake in a New Year's Eve game at local rival Drexel. The Hawks will visit Morgan State on January 5 before the start of the league schedule.

Saint Joseph's opens A-10 play against new member Butler on January 9 at Hagan Arena. After road games at Duquesne (January 12) and a CBS Sports Network appearance against VCU (January 17), the Hawks will play three straight in Philadelphia, beginning with a non-conference game against Penn at The Palestra, which will be televised by ESPN2 or ESPNU. SJU will host defending A-10 champion St. Bonaventure on January 23 and then take on Xavier on Saturday, January 26, in a CBS Sports Network game at Hagan Arena.

The Hawks go on the road to Fordham on January 30 and then return home on February 2 to host Temple in Hagan Arena for second year in a row, with the telecast on CBS Sports Network. SJU travels to Dayton on February 6 and to Massachusetts on February 9 for an ESPN or ESPN2 game. The Hawks return to Philadelphia for three games in a row versus Richmond on February 13, La Salle at The Palestra in a televised game (network tba) on February 16 and against George Washington at Hagan Arena on February 23.

SJU will make a mid-week trip to Saint Louis on February 27 for a CBS Sports Network contest and play the final two home games of the year on March 2 and March 6 against Fordham and Rhode Island, respectively. The Hawks close out the regular season at Charlotte on March 9.

All four rounds of the Atlantic 10 Championship will be held on March 14-17 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. For the fourth straight year, CBS Sports will broadcast the A-10 title game as part of its Selection Sunday coverage. Game times and more television appearances will be announced at a later date.
