Pennington-Morrisville scrimmage notes

On Saturday afternoon, Hawk Hill Hardwood trekked to Morrisville High School to take in a season-opening scrimmage between The Pennington School (NJ) and Morrisville (PA). Pennington features junior combo guard Kaison Randolph, who has emerged as one of St. Joe's top targets in the 2014 class.

Saint Joseph's has up to five scholarships in play for the 2014 class. One of the players receiving the most attention from the Hawk coaching staff to date is 6'2 Pennington School combo guard Kaison Randolph.

Randolph, who runs with We R-1 on the travel circuit, is clearly Pennington's top player, and was hands-down the best player on the court during Saturday's scrimmage.

Last Tuesday, Kaison traveled to Hawk Hill and watched on as St. Joe's throttled Harvard. On Saturday, it was the Hawks' turn to go watch Randolph in action. Phil Martelli and Mark Bass were both seated court side for Saturday's scrimmage.

At 6'2, Kaison played both on and off the ball during Saturday's scrimmage. He opened the scrimmage's first quarter by knocking down a three from the top of the key. Throughout the game, Kaison showed off a soft shooting stroke, from both the perimeter and the free-throw line.

Kaison also showed off his above-average athleticism in this one. He nearly punched home a put-back dunk in the Opening quarter, and later threw down an impressive dunk on the break.

He was at his best slashing to the basket, and either scoring himself or dishing the ball to his teammates. Kaison also knocked down several pull-up jumpers in the lane. His jumper has a lot of arch to it, and that soft shooting touch gave him friendly rolls throughout.

Morrisville does not feature a single college prospect at any level. As a result, it was tough to fully evaluate Kaison's performance. There were times where his coach probably wanted him to be more aggressive as he watched somewhat passively as his teammates operated. In a setting like that, with his skill set, he could have completely taken over the game.

At 6'2, Kaison Randolph is a very interesting combo guard prospect. Schools such as Cincinnati, Iowa State, Drexel, St. Joe's, and more have been linked with the New Jersey native.

It is clear that the Saint Joseph's coaching staff has zeroed in on Randolph, as he took several unofficial visits to Hawk Hill this fall, attended a game last year, and took in this year's Harvard game already. On Saturday, he showed off his game for two members of the Saint Joseph's coaching staff. This is clearly a recruitment to follow for Hawk fans.
