Philly Jam Fest Preview

The Hoop Group Philly Jam Fest kicks off on Friday night. Hawk Hill Hardwood will be in attendance for Saturday's action, which features at least a dozen Hawk recruiting targets in the class of 2014 alone. Take a look inside to see who will be playing, and who the St. Joe's coaching staff is likely to be tracking.

St. Joe's is currently involved with two big men in the class of 2014 that are being recruiting at the high-major to elite high-major level. 6'8 St. Andrew's (DE) forward Ben Bentil is running with Team Next at the Jam Fest. Hawk Hill Hardwood will be watching, and checking in, with the four-star forward.

7'1 Fairfield Prep (CT) center Paschal Chukwu will also be playing in Philly this weekend, with the Connecticut Basketball Club. The shot-blocking center has already been on two unofficial visits to Hawk Hill, and is being heavily pursued by the Hawks. St. Joe's has their work cut out for them on this one though, as schools such as UConn, Georgetown, and more are involved.

2014 jumping jack forward Sam Dingba will also be playing in Philly this weekend, with the Westchester Hawks. Dingba was originally a member of the 2013 class, and actually took an official visit to St. Joe's, before reclassifying. Dingba is still being recruited by St. Joe's, and Hawk Hill Hardwood will be checking in with Dingba on Saturday.

A fourth player in the class of 2014 playing at the Philly Jam Fest is 6'3 Pennington (NJ) combo guard Kaison Randolph. Randolph, who holds offers from St. Joe's, Seton Hall, and more, will be suiting up with the We R 1 17u squad. Randolph was watched closely last weekend in Pittsburgh by St. Joe's assistant coach Dave Duda.

We R 1 17u has two underclassmen who occasionally play up, and both have Hawk interest. 2015 forward Derrick Jones and 2015 big Ernest Aflakpui should both get some minutes at the 17u level. Jones holds an offer while Aflakpui is getting strong interest from SJU.

Sports U, like We R 1, has a number of players with St. Joe's interest. 2014 Westtown (PA) wing Jared Nickens has seen a meteoric rise this spring. Just today, he picked up an offer from Miami, and has been offered this week by the likes of Oklahoma, Saint John's, UMass, and more. Wade Baldwin and Quadri Moore have long been linked to the Hawks from Sports U. Another player who has been linked to SJU this spring is 6'1 senior point Tarin Smith. Saturday will be my first look at the St. Anthony point guard.

Those are the biggest names this weekend, relative to St. Joe's recruiting. Events like this are also where new names pop up. Hawk Hill Hardwood will be watching the above players, as well as identifying new names. DC Assault, Team Melo, Team Loaded, Team Philly, and Jersey Shore Warriors are among the other teams that Hawk Hill Hardwood will be watching Saturday in King of Prussia.

Stay tuned to Hawk Hill Hardwood on Saturday and Sunday for interviews, game recaps, and player evaluations from the Philly Jam Fest.
