9/20 Hawk Report

Tomorrow, we say goodbye to summer and officially welcome fall. That means high school and college basketball are right around the corner. Tonight, Hawk Hill Hardwood looks inside the status of six 2014 recruiting targets.

Tonight, less than a week before the Hawks begin practicing officially for the 2013-2014 season, we take a look at a handful of the Hawks' top 2014 recruiting targets.

James Demery- The 6'4 shooting guard from Northside Christian Academy (NC) is currently on his official visit to St. Joe's. Demery arrived last night and will remain on Hawk Hill through tomorrow. At the moment, this is his only official visit scheduled. I fully expect that the coaching staff is pressing him hard for a commitment during this visit. Demery would bring the highest level of athleticism, intensity, and perimeter defense to the A10. A terrific slasher and finisher, he would be a major coup for Phil Martelli and the Hawks.

Peyton Allen- A 6'4 wing guard from Glenwood (IL), Allen visited SJU officially last weekend. Earlier in the week, I caught up with his AAU coach, Dana Morgan. Morgan told me that he would be sitting down with Peyton and his family on Sunday to "discuss the next step." Could that next step be a commitment to the Hawks? St. Joe's made a very positive impression on him and his family. News could be breaking on this front in the coming days.

Markell Lodge- Lodge is currently on an official visit to Stephen F. Austin. This is his second official, after visiting St. Joe's earlier in the month. Initially, the 6'7 high-jumping forward told me that he would be visiting Murray State this weekend. That changed, with SFA getting the visit instead. Last night, Lodge told me that he "wasn't sure yet" if he would be taking that visit to Murray State now. Last month he trimmed his list to SJU, Murray State, SFA, Oklahoma State, and Ole Miss.

Jacquil Taylor- Taylor, a 6'9 forward/center from Beaver Country Day (MA) will begin his official tour swing next weekend at Purdue. He will then visit Providence, St. Joe's, and North Carolina A&T. His SJU visit will take place the weekend of October 19th.

Quadree Smith- Earlier today, Jamie Shaw reported that Smith, a 6'6-6'7 forward from Paul VI (VA) will be taking an official visit to St. Joe's in October. This is the first that we've heard Smith's name in quite some time. Locally, Drexel is another school involved with the Team Takeover power forward.

Melvin Swift- The former Xavier commit, a 6'7 highlight reel from Yates (TX), took an official to Penn State last weekend. E.J. Holland of Scout's SMU site, PonyStampede, spoke with Swift. He told him that Penn State, SMU, St. Joe's, UMass, and UConn would be the five schools receiving official visits from him in the coming weeks.

So, in closing, there are a trio of SJU recruiting targets who could be nearing decisions. Markell Lodge, Peyton Allen, and James Demery all have the look of recruits that could possibly be deciding as soon as the coming week. Jacquil Taylor, Melvin Swift, and Jacquil Taylor could be a bit further away from deciding.

Continue to keep it locked here for the latest as the dominoes continue to fall.
