Friday Night Notes

It was a busy week on Hawk Hill, and the weekend could be every bit as action-packed. From an official visitor to the start of practice to recruiting updates, read inside.

Saturday morning marks Saint Joseph's first official practice of the 2013-2014 campaign. Practice will begin at 9 am in the practice gym. I will be on hand, and a practice report will go up later in the day tomorrow.

Coaches often use the first practice of the season to bring in top recruiting targets. 2014 Yates (TX) forward Melvin Swift began his official visit to Hawk Hill on Thursday. That visit will conclude tomorrow after he takes in practice. It's likely that a handful of local recruiting targets will also be at practice in the morning. I will have that info in the practice report.

St. Joe's got their second 2014 commitment on Wednesday of this week when 6'7 power forward Markell Lodge committed to the Hawks. He joins Harlem point guard Shavar Newkirk in the recruiting class.

2014 Northside Christian Academy (NC) wing James Demery and 2014 Glenwood (IL) shooter Peyton Allen are also both nearing decisions. Both could make their college choices as soon as tomorrow. Allen will be meeting with his AAU coach and his parents tomorrow to see where things stand. That could be a college commitment or other visits being lined up. James Demery will likely have that same meeting this weekend, with his family and AAU/high school coach Jeff McInnis.

The only other official visit lined up at this point for St. Joe's is 6'9 Beaver Country Day (MA) post Jacquil Taylor on October 19th and 20th. Taylor is currently on an official visit to Purdue. He will then visit Providence, St. Joe's, and NC A&T, in that order.

If news breaks this weekend on the recruiting front, this will be the place to read player and coach interviews.
